Decide and Do

While on my morning walk I was thinking about changes I want to see my life. The last couple years, especially over the last year, I've been studying more about self-improvement. Last week one of the videos I watched was Bob Proctor talking about Decision.

Making decisions is something most of us think we do, but the reality is we aren't very good at it. We say we make a decision, but then we miss out on the most important part.

This part is really what determines whether we actually made a decision or not. This is the doing. Or, acting on that decision.

We decide to do.

But that's were my thought process shifted. I've heard that many times: decide to do.

Then I realized a problem. It's in the verb tense. I didn't know what, so I looked it up.  "To do" is the infinitive form of the verb "do". While the form is a simple (present) infinitive, it feels like it lacks present certainty of action.

For example, if you're "going to do" something, it implies that the action will be in the future. If you want "to do" something, it implies a present action that you may not actually be doing.

I'm not an English major, nor am I fluent in grammar.

I think the issue is in the infinitive. The verb is in a non-finite state. There's no definite time for it.

Anyway, as my mind was mulling it over, I though a better, more committed, form would be "Decide and Do." In this form there is no confusion about when the action will be. We decide to act. Then we act.
